O’Hara Catholic School is proud to announce that Mrs. Julie Fulton and Mrs. Shauna Scott, O’Hara’s Art teachers, have been selected as winners this year for the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Lead. Learn. Proclaim. award.
This award recognizes Catholic educators across the country who are striving to make a difference in the lives of their students. Award criteria includes: collaboration, creatively engaging students, embracing Catholic identity, and supporting rigorous academics that integrate faith.
“The time and dedication that these two women put into their art program is remarkable,” says O’Hara principal Tammy Conway. “They have spent countless hours to create an exceptional art program that honors our Catholic faith and inspires our students every time they enter the art room. I love seeing how excited the students get about the art they are creating; they are gaining a life-long appreciation of the arts that I believe will serve them well throughout their life. I wish I had had art teachers like this when I was a student.”
Mrs. Fulton and Mrs. Scott will be recognized at the annual NCEA conference which will be held in Baltimore, MD this April. They join Mrs. Maryanne Obersinner (2009), Mrs. April Demers (2015) and Mrs. Leslie Jones (2017); O’Hara teachers who have previously received this award.
“We are humbled and grateful to receive this award,” say Fulton and Scott. “We believe that art instruction is vital to the education of the whole child, and it is our privilege to guide students in making connections between art and Catholic education. It is truly a joy to see students come into our classroom and live out their faith through art.”
