Air Force Association names O’Hara teacher Clint Larson as STEM Teacher of the Year for Oregon

(EUGENE, OR) – The Air Force Association has announced Clint Larson, a science teacher at O’Hara Catholic School, as the 2016 Oregon STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Teacher of the
Year.

This recognition is awarded to outstanding STEM teachers throughout the United States. The Air Force Association recognizes teachers at the Chapter, State and National levels, awarding cash and prizes to winners from each division. Clint was selected as the winner of the Columbia Gorge Chapter, and went on to the state level, where he was selected as the recipient of that award. As the winner at the state level, Mr. Larson will be considered for the National Award, which will be announced in September 2016.

Mr. Larson has been the middle school science teacher at O’Hara for 7 years. During this time, he has been instrumental in developing a growing STEM education program throughout the school. Not only teaching middle school science, he can often be found in one the primary classrooms leading STEM projects with the younger students. An active NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) member, Mr. Larson picked up on the STEM movement in education at their national conference in Seattle 7 years ago, and has since been integrating and refining what STEM looks like in a classroom at any age level. O’Hara uses Mr. Larson as a STEM specialist not only to work in classroom settings, but also to train fellow teachers on effective STEM methods and incorporation into curriculum. Mr. Larson completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of
Oregon and has been teaching for over 12 years.

Representatives from the Air Force Association will be in attendance at O’Hara’s staff meeting on Wednesday, June 8 (meeting begins at 2:50pm) to present the award to Mr. Larson. Members of the media are invited to attend.
