When we are considering our school’s own work with our mission, we also need to be considering the Catholic Education Mission Playbook and the Accompaniment and Renewal Process document. This spring, as your school spends time with the Examen process for Domain 1, you will have the opportunity to consider what Standard 1 looks like in your school; “An excellent Catholic school is driven and guided by a clearly communicated mission that embraces a Catholic identity that includes gospel values, a focus on the Eucharist, and a commitment to communal faith formation, academic excellence, missionary discipleship, and service.” Evaluating, reviewing, and analyzing our mission in our schools is a key component to ensuring we are in solidarity with the Playbook. Having a strong mission statement means more than hanging it on our walls and on our letterhead: it should be deeply embedded in the daily lives of the school, the choices made by leadership, and the processes we develop. When leadership is making decisions, are they making those through the lens of promoting the school's mission and the Archbishop's vision? As leaders, if we can answer “yes” to this question, we are moving our school forward and promoting positive growth!
